Why Would You Wear Sunglasses at the Gym?
July 24, 2008 4:30 pm Random GripingsSo I’m at the gym today, and I saw at least 2 guys wearing sunglasses while they were working out.
What’s up with that?
Are they trying to check out girls and don’t want to be seen doing it? Or worse, are they checking out guys and don’t want to be seen doing it?
It’s weird enough to wear sunglasses inside, but if you wear them in the gym I can only think of a few reasons other than the two above:
- You just had an eye exam but didn’t want to miss your workout (not likely)
- You think you’re cool (you’re really not, sorry)
- You think you’re some kind of poker king and forgot to take them off
I mean seriously, why would you do that? Can you tell I’m baffled???

I have never seen guys wearing sunglasses to gym before in my country. Well, I am a guy too, I know why guys want to do that, well ultimately is down to individual integrity.

The answer is simple… aparently those lights used in indoor gyms weakens you, and you can actually get more reps and energy by wearing sunglasses.

I’ve seen some guys wearing sunglasses at our local gym too. Most probably because they are checking out guys and don’t want to be seen doing it as what you’ve mentioned LOL

What? Wearing shades while exercise? i’ve never seen such thing here in Malaysia. Weird.

It’s possible that they just don’t want to be recognized. But for whatever their reasons are, it’s still weird…

I workout like every day, and I’ve never seen a guy with sungl. in my gym….

That is pretty funny. I can hear that song “I wear my sunglasses at night” playing in my head, lol. They probably think it makes them look cool. Doesn’t everybody look cool wearing sunglasses?

OMG, i’ve seen this too. I could stop laughing. Some people have take the whole “i’m trying to be cool” thing to another level. Whatever, they don’t realize how stupid they look…

I would hope they are not checking out other guys. That’s a little creepy, but funny. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone where sunglasses in a gym. However, I will admit that I’m not very observant about those things.

It’s ok only if you’re a rockstar.

Well, I remember reading an article a few years ago about how the majority of men at the gym are homosexual. The reason being, homosexual men are more likely to care for their bodies and want to look good.

that’s kinda creepy….guys that wear sunglasses indoors, whether at the gym or otherwise are creepy…kind of unibomber-esque if you ask me.

*LoL* All I can think of why they’re wearing them because they thought they’re cool or they have a big eyebug. It could be possible that they’re eyeing on girls or even on guys ewwww! that’s gross *LOL* ^_^

What annoys me is when people leave their sunny’s on when you’re talking to em.

If I have an eye exam not wanting to miss the workout,I shall wear a pair of sunglasses in the gym.

I guess they want to look cool and draw attention from others.
While I shall not wear sunglasses at the gym.

I shall not wear sunglasses at the gym unless I have eye problem.I do not want to be showy in public.

Do you have fluorescent lights at your gym? Maybe if these guys are looking at the ceiling while doing certain exercises (e.g. bench press) the lights are harsh on their eyes.

As a woman guys are always staring at me like they have a freakin problem. I have thought of wearing a hat and sunglasses, turtle neck, and baggy men’s clothes so that maybe they will stop. That way I can just stare back and make them feel uncomfortable the say way they do it to me.

i wear sunglasses at the gym because the light hurts my eyes
plus with the added bonus of people leave me alone
and if people still don’t leave me alone i break out the shooting range earmuffs
actually i have the earmuffs just in case the stupid music is to loud

Yea that is kinda weird.

Im about to go to the gym and put sunglasses on. I think I have SAD (social anxiety) and I get petrified of people. I get very tense and self conscious around people when im at the gym I cant focus on my workout because I think everybody is looking at me. I start thinking in my head “what about this person, what about that person? Are people judging me? Am I doing this excercise right? Am I fat and ugly? Did I look at that girl too long? Was it fucked up to look at her? So the sunglasses i’m hoping will let me focus on my workout and not other people. And as a bonus I think they make me look tough. (lol)Knowing my luck karma will have the glasses falll off on the treadmil and they will be crunched as I jog on them.,

Why would you wear sunglasses at the gym? Ha! That’s a funny question… I’ve wondered why people wear sunglasses for a lot of reasons, like: on cloudy days, in grocery stores, during the night, inside people’s house, in the car while driving away from the sun or during the middle of the day when the sun is located directly above - high in the sky, and so on.
Hey, that’s a good idea about using them to check out hot girls while in the gym working out. LOL! Anyway, I’d say most guys wear them at the gym because it gives them that tough guy, terminator type look. Ya know, macho, macho man…
The main thing is, at least you were at the gym and trying to improve your health and fitness levels; cheers!

Isn’t it obvious? They wear sunglasses at the gym because they like to get high before they work out, but they don’t want everyone to know it. And being a guy I can assure you, checking people out at the gym is not a good idea. Those gym shorts may be comfortable, but they’ll tell on you in a heartbeat, or two if you’re doing cardio. The point is, in that situation, the eyes aren’t the only visible body language, if you know what i mean. More likely he just toked up, than he’s trying to sneaky peek the cheeks.
