What is the Connection Between Snow and Oranges???
January 9, 2008 10:51 am Random Observations
So I was eating an orange this morning, then I looked out the window and watched the snow come down. This made me wonder, “Why is winter the season when we eat the most oranges?” It seems kind of ironic if you ask me. When I think of oranges, the LAST thing I think about is snow.
Oranges remind me of Florida. And when I think of Florida, I think of nice, sunny, beautiful days at the beach or something like that. So when I’m eating an orange and thinking about driving very slowly so I don’t die, it’s almost depressing.
Maybe we eat oranges in the winter in order to give us hope that in the near future we’ll have nice sunny days again. No beach unfortunately cause I live in Utah, but at least nice sunny days. But I can also see how this could be a very very depressing thing.
Another question I have about oranges is when did Santa start handing them out? Are oranges supposed to represent happiness and cheer? If so, I must say that I worry about those people that suffer from SAD (seasonal affectivness disorder, or whatever it stands for. You know, seasonal depression) because I bet everytime they look at an orange they almost break down and cry. Ok, maybe not, but you get the idea.
Well, either way someone is going to have a problem. So, I’ll just keep eating my oranges thinking about those sunny days in a couple of months when I won’t have oranges to eat.

I love oranges not only for the taste, but orange is my favorite color! Isn’t it interesting how we relate to our food, positively or negatively? Oranges always sound good to me, but if it’s snowing out, I think it would be a nice visual like you said about Florida!

“Why is winter the season when we eat the most oranges?”
Very good question I personally think its because of its strong citris fresh aroma. It makes you feel like your in a park on a picnic day with your family. Or simply because we use more oranges for those great holiday recipes. That is my thought!

Oranges are SO tasty and are SO good for you. If you talked to nutritional experts they would tell you many many benefits that make it worth your while to eat them.

Perhaps I’m too picky. I only prefer the oranges that have the really thick peels like the Sunkist brands.
The thin skinned navel oranges don’t do nothing for me and they’re hard to peel! =(

I love oranges. Orange juice is quite tasty. Gotta say it’s because we see them all the time in the summer, so we don’t really think about them, and when Winter rolls by, we decide to eat them.

If I were a robot I’d say the humans eat oranges because they contain the C vitamin which is good in treating and preventing cold.
But I’m not!
They remind me of summer and the sun too!
Plus, they taste really good

Being from Florida you would think that we would get tired of orange’s , but we don’t. My kids love them and so do I. Besides the above mentioned pleasures of eating oranges the are also full of antioxidants which help in the fight against heart disease and cancer.

I always assumed people ate a lot of oranges during the winter because the vitamin C helped with their immunity. Either way, when is not a good time of year to eat oranges?
