What Do They Do With the ‘Loser’ Super Bowl T-Shirts?

One of my co-workers asked me an interesting question yesterday. So we know that when the Super Bowl is over you can buy a t-shirt for the winning team. So what do they do with the t-shirts that are already printed for the other team?
My guess, they probably go to third world countries with all of those black D.A.R.E. shirts that we all used to wear in elementary school. I even heard someone mention that they actually saw some kid wearing a t-shirt with the wrong winning team of a previous Super Bowl on it once.
I guess I’m not the only person that was wondering about this, I found another article about it from OregonLive: Which Super Bowl T-shirt did you want again?.
Now my other question would be how much does it cost for them to print all of the shirts that they aren’t going to use? That’s gotta get a little pricey, but hey - whey you’re charging as much as they do for a 30 second ad during the Super Bowl, I think they can handle it just fine!
And now we also know that the Super Bowl is not just an entertaining sports event, but is actually helping to clothe children in Africa and Asia. How nice!

Yeah I remember those old DARE shirts!
It is not just losing team shirts, but also hats, gifts, and more.
I guess it doesn’t matter though, because I am sure they make enough $$$ selling the winning team gear to cover their costs!

Good point! There is a lot more than t-shirts… I wonder if they send the hats off too. Now you got me thinking!!!

That’s a really cute random thought for the day, thanks.
I miss my old DARE shirt.
Do we know for certain that they donate the “loser” shirts?

Yeah I always thought it would be cool to have one of those loser shirts.

Its absolutely a humanitarian cause. Nice to know, passion is yielding charity. Go on Super Bowl!

It’s funny that you mention this. My wife and I had this same conversation the night of the superbowl. What a great game.

I always wonder this, but never took the time to look it up. I like your blog by the way. Randomness is definitely my style.

They give them to the homeless.

It was a great game, you have to wonder if anyone kept the loser shirts/hats and if they are worth anything? I figured they’d end up on Ebay!

Lol I dont think they start making them until the game is over. There are probably people set up and ready to go the second the game gets over and its official.

Thats actually a clever question. Ive never thought of that before.
Theres a lot more then just t-shirts…Theres hats and all this other stuff as well.I assume at the rate they can make the products they can afford to take a lose on half of them due to what they sell them for.

Actually I have read that they do in fact go to 3rd world countries. I’ve seen pictures of children in these countries wearing the loser’s shirts. Being an Eagle’s fan I wouldn’t mind going to one of those countries and finding a “Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Champions” T-Shirt… a guy can dream right?

Great point! I’m a huge Pat’s fan and was lucky enough to get a 19-0 Superbowl t-shirt. My friend who works for a local distributor said they were essentially giving them away. The Patriots may not have won, but my shirt says otherwise.

I live in AZ and my g/f is a Patriots fan, they bought all these superbowl t-shirts and then her team lost. oh well not my team

They give them to people in denial

Both NFL and NBA have contracts with their respective non profit organization in donating extra clothings. I beleive the only rule they have is that these shirts must be donated to somewhere far and away from the public eyes, thus most of them end up in Africa. Funny thing is that I just saw a girl wearing a Buffalo Bills Super Bowl champ t-shirt on discovery channel the other day.

You know what, i was wondering the same thing all this while. My guess is that they would probably sell those T-shirts for a cheap dress in other countries. Whatever they do, i hope they are doing good to people.
