Thoughts On Organic Foods

I’m all about eating healthier, but sometimes I wonder if going “organic” is really worth it. The other day my wife and I were looking around an organic grocery store and trying to decide if that would be the smart thing to do.
I guess the thing I wonder sometimes is if there are different levels of ‘organic’. Does it always mean that there are no chemicals used? Or are there some less harmful ones that can be used to still keep the vegetables and fruits bug free.
I will say though, I’m not overly impressed with the standard produce that I always get at the local grocery store. So if organic food really does taste better and in the end is a lot better for me, I’d probably make the switch.
I’m also a believer that it’s a good idea to eat as few processed foods as you can. I’m not talking about being a fanatic and avoiding all processed foods all together, but I do believe that’s one of the reasons why we have such an obesity problem in this country.
Anyone else have some thoughts on going organic?

The thing about organic foods is they are usually much more expensive, and I’m sure some of the ones labeled organic are really not as safe as we think. But who knows…

I’ve never had organic fruits or vegetables - Only pastas and stuff like that. It all tasted like cardboard, unfortunately. If it tasted better, I’d definitely switch, but I was not impressed.

I think organic foods are healthier. Only thing is, they are usually more expensive. If you can afford it, then why not!

I actually have some articles on my site that might be helpful to you. Something that says organic doesn’t necessarily mean organic. When it says USDA organic, it means it is 95% organic, with the other 5% being comprised of certain approved ingredients. I’m not totally into “organic” foods. But I minimize eating processed food. With “organic” it still contains chemicals but atleast less amount.

Organic means there were no pesticides used. I used to work in a grocery store.

I don’t go to Trader Joe’s to buy that organic stuff, but I am sure it is much healthier. A lot of the foods you buy in the market have all kinds of chemicals. A lot of the stores that sell organic foods charge a little more.

My wife loves to go to the sunflower market. I cant say that I am a huge fan of the taste though. Why is there a trade off between health and taste?

I believe in organic food. It’s just a shame it’s so darn expensive. I’m trying to buy most on my stuff organic but it’s not always possible.

You cannot always rely on if something you buy or eat is organic. Fore instance I bought some organic corn from whole foods and dried out an ear to take the seeds. Now I have corn seeds 300 different strains from around the world and the “organic” seeds from whole foods were the worst dried seeds I have seen and the germination rate was 50% and the others just molded up instead of sprouting. To me the “organic” ear possibly was not truly organic, it might have been grown organically but I bet it was genetically modified seed to begin with.
The way to solve any “organic” possibilities is to grow it your self from seeds you know are non-gmo.

I have been thinking about going organic purely for the taste/flavor . Whether there are any real health benefits I’m not convinced either way.

We’ve recently switched based on concerns over pesticides and antibiotics. I’m with a lot of the folks here, however, in that I’m not sure ‘organic’ really means organic in a lot of cases. But I do think you’re at least incrementally better off, even if it’s not 100% organic.

I was working in tge organic food industry for five years. Most of the products, sold as organic food are not really organic. There are a lot of real stuff too, but my opinion is that they are not that much better. I mean, taste and everything. Though I’ve been working in this industry, I still prefer average food and I eat a lot ot junk food. I am doing a lot of gym as well, and I don’t have problems with obesity.

Organic foods the best, my family do plant a little bit of vegetable in the garden. Sure taste better then those in stores. Healthier too.

Taste is important to me as well. Maybe its an acquired taste
