The Completely Non-Traditional Thanksgiving
December 18, 2007 7:42 am Food, Random Thoughts
I know that I’m a little late on this one, but I had an idea about a month ago and I’m going to have to pull it off in the next year or two.
I am officially sick of always eating the same thing at Thanksgiving. Yes, it’s good and I really do like the turkey and mashed potatoes, I just think that Thanksgiving could use some variety! So what I’m going to do every now and then in the coming years is have a 100% Non-Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner. One year maybe I’ll go Japanese and have a lot of sushi and other Japanese style dishes. Maybe it will be all Italian food, just a bunch of different pastas and such. But the idea would be to have a Thanksgiving dinner that is based on other nations’ foods.
Ha, here’s an idea: an all microwave TV dinner Thanksgiving! Ok, probably not a great idea on that one…
So who’s with me?! If you have any other ideas for a great Non-Traditional Thanksgiving feel free to share it!

I like this idea. Maybe it’s because you have the attractive Sushi image, but it’s an appealing idea :-).

Hey! Dan those look really goo, what are they? Some kind of Sushi? Anyway, you’re right, it’s good to change from time to time.

Right on, and I agree totally. I found the Banquet frozen Turkey meal for $1. Not a bad deal at all and sure beats a $50 Turkey!

Sounds like a good idea at first, but you can pretty much eat whatever you want any other day of the year.

I would love to eat something “non-traditional” on Thanksgiving (or just do away with the day completely), but it’s the only time hubby gets turkey, so he won’t let me. Hey, I’m right there with ya on those microwave dinners! LOL!

Urgh..for me, I prefer the traditional way coz it always bring back memories =) and we always look forward to thanksgiving because of the turkey dish! hehe

Oh yes, i hate that traditional thanksgiving, too. At Kerners Cooking match one may find a lot of individual and extraordinary food. Very often they have got special guests like Tim Mälzer and Jamie Oliver.

While I do love my Turkey Day foods, I wouldn’t mind hitting up my favorite sushi place.
Don’t think the fam would understand though.

And what are those in the picture? They look really comestible. I agree with you .. we should give the traditional foods a more special touch!

Although overdoing it and experiencing that all-too-familiar tryptophan feeling is something we all can relate to, hey it’s only one day a year so I think we should stick with tradition.
