Here in Utah it’s the week of the big rivalry between the two big local universities, the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. Some even call it the ‘Holy War’ of the state, and every year a lot of people get all pumped up about it.
I have to admit, I’ve never really gotten into it. I mean, I guess in a sense I’m a BYU fan, but just because they’re closer to me and I grew up here. But honestly in the end I don’t really care.
The funny thing is that I used to actually go to BYU, but dropped out and decided to go to a different college instead. So maybe I should become a Ute fan just to be the rebel in my family
. I’ll have to think more aobut that one.
Even in the office where I work there are some fans that are die-hard both ways. And they all make their jabs at each other which does make it pretty fun. I just don’t know why, but I’ve never really been able to get into it.
Now that I think about it, I’ve never really ever gotten really into any sport! I mean, I used to play soccer when I was a kid until I almost tore my ACL, but then never played anything seriously again. Does that make me a strange guy that I’m not fanatical about any sports?
What’s crazy is that I have a brother who really isn’t athletic at all, and yet he is always talking about the BYU team and what they could be doing better etc. Maybe that’s one of the things that bugs me about sports fanaticism, you have all these guys sitting around debating how their team could be better, etc., and yet they don’t play themselves! I watch merely for the entertainment aspect, but that’s about it. Seriously…does that make me a weird guy???

I was in Las Vegas last week for a blogging conference (Blog World to be exact) and wish that I would have had time to do a little golfing while I was there. But unfortunately I didn’t…
One of the cool things about going to Vegas is that there are lots of Las Vegas Golf packages available at really good deals. There are a lot of really nice golf courses such as Bali Hai Golf Club, Desert Pines Golf Club, and Royal Links Golf Club.
Of those listed above, I think that the Royal Links club looks the nicest. If you go to their site you’ll see some of the building that they have, some of which look like castles!
A great way to get golf packages is to go through Walter’s Golf. They have a Tour the World package that let’s play all three of the courses mentioned above for a really good deal. Maybe next time I go to vegas I’ll check these guys out more closely!

I don’t think I’ve ever really been to a baseball game. I know that probably sounds really sad, but its true. I played coach pitch a little bit when I was a kid, but that’s all the interaction I’ve had with baseball.
But tonight we’re going to a local league game. And I’m actually excited to go, I think we’ll have a good time. I guess we’ll find out once the game is going…
Honestly, I’m mainly a soccer fan. It’s about the only sport that I can watch for more than an hour and not really get bored. We have a local MLS team in Utah (Real Salt Lake) that I need to go see sometime, but I haven’t made it a priority yet.

No, not the movie…that was kinda lame. But the actual tennis tournament itself would be really cool to do go. I’d love to get some Wimbledon tennis tickets!
Maybe I’m weird, but I’m a guy that really enjoys watching tennis. I don’t know when it started, but at some point in my life I got bored with watching the usual US sports of basketball and football (I was never a watcher of baseball) and got more interested in things like tennis. I just think it’s a fun sport to watch.
But to go to Wimbledon would be a very cool experience. For one, its in the UK so that alone makes it cool. The other cool thing about Wimbledon is the layout. You have all these different tennis courts that you can go to and see the pros in action.
If you haven’t watched much tennis before, you should give it a try. Watch the guys, I think that they are the best simply because the game seems more aggressive. It’s like watching the NBA vs. the WNBA, they both have their high points but the men are just so much more aggressive that it makes it more interesting to watch.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on Wimbledon. Random I know, but that’s the point of this blog. Wimbledon 2008 runs from June 23-July 6.

I admit, I’m a fan of golfing. I also admit that I don’t do it very often which honestly is sad because I really do enjoy playing golf. I also don’t mind going to Las Vegas every now and then. Granted, I don’t gamble but sometimes it’s nice to go get some sun when you’re sick of winter (like I have been this year).
Here’s a really cool site that I came across for those of you that like golfing and Las Vegas: Las Vegas discount golf. One of the nice things about Las Vegas is you can usually get pretty good deals on things, and this site will help you get some great Vegas discounts for golf! This site is great for getting some good discount packages so you can enjoy the heat of Las Vegas. These are some really nice courses, so check it out!

I mentioned last week that my wife was going to have her gallbladder out. This week I’ve been helping her to recover from the surgery and while helping her I’ve come to the conclusion that I never want to have surgery.
In fact, I never want to have to stay in the hospital for anything if I can help it. Now, I’m not saying that if I needed to I wouldn’t go to the hospital. But I plan on staying healthy! To this day I’ve never broken a bone, and really the only reason I have ever gone to the hospital for myself was to have an MRI done on my knee.
Some may say that if you’ve never broken a bone, you’ve never had any real fun. I would have to disagree! Maybe I’ve just been lucky not to have any major injuries. Here are a few example of times I’ve been very lucky:
- Stretched out and almost tore my ACL playing soccer
- Fell off a platform and almost got impaled on a 2 foot wooden stake (just barely missed it)
- Ran into another waverunner with my waverunner on the lake
- Fel into a small snow ravine on a snow mobile (about 5 feet deep is all)
- Numerous wipe outs on water skis and alpine skis
- Hit several curbs driving in the snow
- and more
So I think I’m still having fun. I just don’t like seeing my wife go through this, so I hope that our roles are never switched.

One of my co-workers asked me an interesting question yesterday. So we know that when the Super Bowl is over you can buy a t-shirt for the winning team. So what do they do with the t-shirts that are already printed for the other team?
My guess, they probably go to third world countries with all of those black D.A.R.E. shirts that we all used to wear in elementary school. I even heard someone mention that they actually saw some kid wearing a t-shirt with the wrong winning team of a previous Super Bowl on it once.
I guess I’m not the only person that was wondering about this, I found another article about it from OregonLive: Which Super Bowl T-shirt did you want again?.
Now my other question would be how much does it cost for them to print all of the shirts that they aren’t going to use? That’s gotta get a little pricey, but hey - whey you’re charging as much as they do for a 30 second ad during the Super Bowl, I think they can handle it just fine!
And now we also know that the Super Bowl is not just an entertaining sports event, but is actually helping to clothe children in Africa and Asia. How nice!
