Strike One….is Strike Two Coming?
January 14, 2008 8:39 am Random Gripings
So I heard on the radio this morning that there is a rumor that the actors are going to go on strike just like the screen writers have gone on strike. The rumor is that they will go on strike sometime in the summer.
Now, I guess on some levels I can sympathize for the screen writers and stuff. I mean, without them there is no show and I can see that they are probably getting shafted. But the actors? Granted, not all actors make the kind of money that the superstars do. I get that. Maybe I just hate strikes. The other thing that is going to be lame about all of this is that you can expect the price of your movie ticket to go up. Isn’t that what always happens when there is a string of strikes like this?
The screen writers want more….then the actors want more…then the set guys are going to want more….then the directors are going to want more…it never seems to end. Forget the price of gas, I’m predicting that the price of a movie ticket in 2009 is going to be $25 a ticket! Then we’ll really hear people complain about how prices are going up!
The great thing is that my TV isn’t hooked up anyway. So if the whole entertainment industry gets all messed up, I really won’t care. So go ahead, strike away. But don’t expect me to start to shell out more and more for movie tickets. I’ll find other means of entertainment. Anybody read a good book lately?

I think you are completely right! Movie prices are already on the rise and I am slowly getting to the point that I just don’t want to pay more to watch a movie then I do for a food for an entire week. I think this strike might have the opposite effect, instead of earning actors more money it will put more actors out of a job as people just get frustrated.

This is pathetic - everyone is so greedy these days. This is one of many reasons I only go to the dollar movies, if that or I wait until it comes out on TV.

I agree Jed! Movie prices are sneaking up to $10 a ticket. That’s way high! By the time you get a family of 4 movie tickets, popcorn and a drink you’re out $60 for one movie outing.

You are so right. That is just horrible!!

I gave up television when the first set of reruns started. We are now on reruns of the reruns. I rented a movie, The Ninth Gate. It’s not the newest Johnny Depp movie, but it’s one of his best. After seeing the movie I bought the book, The Club Dumas, that the movie was based on. Now, I can’t wait to read all of Arturo Perez-Reverte’s novels. The strike is good for something. I found an author I wouldn’t have found otherwise.

Whoa! Twenty five dollars for a move ticket? I hope your prediction doesn’t come true!

Are actors even unionized the way writers are?

totally agree with the fact that script writers wanted a hike in their pay. but the superstar actors? i cant even imagine my entire pocket money going up in smoke on one movie in one evening.i agree wih nate moller that even i also wait for the movie to come on the TV.looks like hollywood is indeed going up the greed ladder.

Yeah…$25 tickets
That would be a huge dent for a family of 4. How much is the popcorn going to be? $15? Ouch!

Yeah, I totally sympathise with the writers. Because nobody knows who they are, it doesn’t matter if they get shafted. But you can’t replace an established actor as easily, especially in a long-running sit-com or whatever.
However, I suspect the extras and randomers don’t get paid very much at all.

I wonder what’s next after actors going on strike…
Maybe millionaires will do it to because their taxes are too high and the price of the caviar went up.
Who needs them anyway?
Hey, if you want to read a good book, I recommend you the Dune series.

This is real hilarious! For two tickets?

I hardly even watch my television anymore. Besides the fact there is nothing worth watching, my laptop screen has better picture quality and it’s also portable.
The switch from analog signal to digital in Feb. 2009 won’t affect me.
I’d rather pop a DVD in the disc drive. It’s cheaper than a movie, I can watch it again whenever I want, I’m never interrupted by screaming babies or adults passing in front of me on their way to the over-priced snack bar and I don’t have to pay outrageous prices at the snack bar or the ticket counter just to be forced to watch commercials before the movie begins.
And I don’t waste my money on gas or have to fight traffic getting to and from, either.
Fire the strikers. Every last one of them. They’re just greedy.
I’ll stay home, thank you.

Johnny, I used to be married to Frank Herbert’s niece. (He wrote the Dune books.) I knew Franks brother, too.
Never read any of his books, though.

I completely support and sympathize with the writers on their strike… but I don’t know about the actors!
I mean, alot of these writers are losing their home’s because of the strike, but the actors all live in mansions… where does greed start to kick in?

I think that the price gouge is outrageous. I sometimes like to sneak in my own treats. I justify it by telling myself that I’m not hurting their business because I wouldn’t have bought any of their snacks anyway.
What do you think?
[Reply]
GOOD! I hope they do go on strike.
Then maybe people will stop watching so much T.V. and realize that these actors are not Gods.
Pick up a book!

I read an article the other day that said the Networks were making a killing off of reality shows due to the strike.
Unions are so “out of touch” that it isn’t even funny anymore. Just look at the price of a car! And we wonder why Detroit can not compete with the world’s other automakers. Thank you Unions!

One of the reasons I don’t go to the movies a lot is the cost. For a family of five, we are talking about $50.00 for tickets and $25.00 for popcorn and drinks. Total cost is $75.00. Thats a lot of money for a 90 minute film. Its kind of a rip off. But I don’t think the price of a ticket will be $25.00.

People need to realize that the studios are making a fortune off of the backs of the writers.
In addition to that, with emerging technologies that are just about to take place, the writers know they are going to get doubly screwed if they dont do something about it now.
I just wrote a big article about thisexplaining all the details.

I think the actors have a cheek. Why are they striking it’s not like they don’t get paid enough!

I agree with you. I mean a ticket cost 10 dollars (20 dollars for 2 people) already then plus popcorn and soda or something to eat and drink probably another 10 dollars so probably about 30 dollars altogether as of now. If everybody wants more money maybe 50 or 60 dollars for 2 people

I am very much agree with Jed! There are increasing trend in Movie prices. Well but still is outing for families. Anyways Lets see how much more increase.
