Snow Snow…and More Snow!

2:53 pm Random Gripings

It’s been 12 days since our last major snow storm. The last time I wrote about it I mentioned that tons of people were sliding off the road. I’m happy to report that this morning as I was coming in to work I didn’t see a single car that had slid off the road! Maybe people are finally remembering what they need to do to drive in the snow.

Except for this one guy who tailed me for about 3 miles!!! Grr… I know that a lot of people would say, “Well, just slam your brakes, let him rear end you, and collect the insurance money.” Sounds like a great plan, but here are a few reasons why I never even really think of doing that:

  1. It’s cold!
  2. I don’t want to chance actually getting injured
  3. I don’t like dealing with insurance companies
  4. Snow is cold
  5. It was 6am in the morning…need I say more?
  6. With the roads that slick, I’d probably get hit by another car when I got out to assess the damages
  7. Have I mentioned that it was cold?!

So while I’m sure that if I did get rear ended I could collect some money for it, I think in this situation the cons definitely outweigh the pros. You may have a different view on the idea, but that’s mine. So please, don’t tail people when the roads are slick. You might not be behind someone like me. You might be behind someone that actually wants to collect insurance money ;-) .

I like that my brake lights turn on before my breaks hit. So if someone gets close, I just tap the brake. They think I’m braking and slam on their brakes, and I just keep going.
    =)
And I hate cold weather. I’m in TN, so its not as bad as some places, but I hate it.

I had the same experience except I was helping a friend move and towing a trailer in the snow with someone tailing me. I think I’m a fan of mandatory driving test every year.

I know what you are talking about. I hate when people drive crazy and tail me, when the roads are all icy. In the middle of winter the last thing I would ever want to happen, was to get into an accident, and have to stand in the cold looking at the cars and exchanging information.

I live in Texas now but I lived in Chicago for about 7 years and I absolutely hated the cold weather. I didn’t mind playing in the snow, but when that blizzard came, it was no fun.

I don’t drive but I have noticed that snow seems to really bring out the stupid in people when they’re driving.

Trouble around where I live is the growing number of uninsured drivers, so the ’slam on your brakes’ trick could seriously backfire!

    Or they could be car-jackers!

Plus who wants the hassle of being without your car for days or weeks depending on the damage. And most insurance plans don’t fully cover the cost of a rental replacement.

I definitely agree that people forget to leave a good cushion of space between themselves and the next car. When driving in extreme conditions take caution of those drivers that don’t know what their doing.

So last Sunday night we had a big snow storm, and as I’m going to work early in the morning, I here them say that there are numerous slideoffs, accidents, easily the most dangerous commute of the season, so I turn around and head home, deciding to take the day off.

And now I hear that this next Monday morning is going to be the same.

    Is is spring yet?

Not to mention the fact that the person behind you may not have had insurance. Plus I don’t blame you for not wanting to get out in that cold. :)
