Resisting Candy Urges - This is Tough!

I wrote a post awhile back saying that I was going to try to stay off candy for about 3 months or so. Well, I failed miserably in that regard mainly due to my wife having a baby and having some candy each day was one of the few things that I could use to keep me going some of those days.
So I’ve renewed that goal with more vigor this time. And it’s amazing to me how often I can be tempted to just nibble on a little bit of candy! In fact the day after I reset the goal my boss offered me a handful of Easter candy, and I had to turn him down. But I’ll admit that I certainly thought about it for a minute!
You know what’s great about doing something like this? People thing you’re crazy! I’ve gotten several really funny looks when someone has offered me candy and I’ve said no. It’s great.
Next I’ll work on cutting out other things that aren’t optimal for my health. I’ve been eating ice cream off and on lately, so that will be one of the next to go. Along with popcorn. I’m a huge popcorn junkie, but the other day I actually read the nutrition facts and that really motivated me not to eat popcorn anymore!
I don’t plan on never eating candy again, just so you know. I’m being a little drastic for the next couple of months just so that it’s no longer a bad habit, then I’ll allow it in small amounts when the situation seems appropriate. But, I have some lifestyle changes I’d like to make and this is one that I’m starting with!

Im addicted to sour patch kids… I know how hard it would be to quit those. But since I have about 7 cavities that need to be filled I try not to eat them… as often. I share your pain though, it is really hard.

It is hard giving up anything, especially when you are expecting a baby. I tried giving up caffeine in month 8, and I failed miserably.
Good luck.

Ha, having a pregnant wife is always a problem if you want to stay away from the junk food.
In the UK we don’t have quite the selection as in the US so its not as much as a temptation.
I congratulate you for setting the goal, well done.

My vice is sugar cookies and since I have started blogging I have gained over 40 pounds I would say 39 are cuz of the cookies LMAO!!

i have a friend who gave up sugar entirely. I mean she went so far as to cut out catsup because there is sugar in it! I could never be that zealous, but cutting out candy seems doable compared to that.

My mother never wanted us to eat candies when we were young. I should thank her. My teeth until are still perfect. No need to go to the dentist every year. Candies can damage the teeth if not properly washed after eating them.

dude, you are so lucky to even have candy. I too was like you once and loved candy more than food. so guess what, i had teeth problems and after a visit to the dentist I got me a couple of fillings. Oh Joy.
Now I cannot eat candy at all, especially no chewing gum, cause that pulls out the filling and if that happens i will have to go through the entire process of drilling and stuff again.
You should be careful and take care of your teeth if you want to atleast be able to eat candy

Good luck to you! It’s definitely a hard habit to kick.

What I have found to be successful in avoiding candy is to write everything I eat down on paper every day so I can monitor what I eat. It gives me an idea if I am eating too much junk food or too much calories or too much candy.

I read somewhere it only takes 27 days to build a habit, so since you’ve made it past that… it should be simple. My wife and I did the same thing with fast food. After a month of it being on the “banned” list, the thought of McDonalds makes my stomach turn.
