Movie Review: Yes Man
April 13, 2009 6:57 am Movies, TV and Music, Random Gripings
Why is it that so many comedies have to throw in one thing that makes it so I would never want to see the movie again, let alone buy it? Well, that’s what happened with Yes Man.
Honestly, there was a lot of funny stuff in this film and for the most part I liked it. But they had to throw in one completely unnecessary thing that makes it so I don’t think I’ll ever recommend this movie to anyone.
So, if you go to see this one, just skip the scene where he helps out the old lady. Not cool, unnecessary, and honestly gross. That one scene ruined what otherwise was a pretty funny movie.
I’m annoyed with Hollywood. I have been for years honestly. I mean think about how many movies would have been great, but they had to throw in one little thing that makes it so you have to say, “Yeah, great movie…except for that one part.” Or, “I loved that show, but I always skip this one part…” Why don’t they just leave the one part out? I’m also very annoyed with all of the masturbation references lately as well. I mean seriously, if you think about it how many good films (Transformers for example) have had a masturbation reference lately.
I think I may be done seeing movies for a while. I’m tired of the crap. Anyone want to join me?

I completely agree. I don\’t know why they bother with scenes like that. It doesn\’t add anything to the ratings, other than negative imput

I see what you mean.
I watched it yesterday and thought in the main it was pretty good. It was an easy watch, feel good film.
I read the original book and, like in many cases, preferred the book to the film but felt they did the best they could to give it justice.
If you haven’t yet - read Danny Wallace’s YES MAN. It’s fantastic.

It’s a feel good movie in short. But I agree, they shouldn’t have added that scene with the old lady. It’s kinda demeaning

Dude yes man was great. You know what is grows your face haha

I am annoyed at Hollywood too, for several reasons. First of all, they can’t seem to produce new and really interesting comedies without them being romantic and getting into cliches like a love triangle.
Then, the action movies: doh, they’re getting worse by the day.
Sci fi? Non existant.

I kind of liked the idea of the movie. Gives you kind of a big boost in the morning to do great things and just say YES to everything.

Oh come on it was one scene. Sure it was ill concieved but I guess some people (test audience) found it funny.

Well, I couldn’t be more agreed with you here about that old lady scene, Dan. That’s why this movie is not that suitable to those under 13 here…
After all, I’ll give a 8.5/10 for this Yes Man movie!

I’ve see this one last week in cinema but I was a bit dissapointed. Don’t get me wrong…I had a good laugh but I’m not particular into american style comedies. And I didn’t think you were either after the other reviews you’ve made: Transporter, Traitor, ….

I have been thinking about going to see this movie this monday, i am kind of thinking twice about it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and the message. Many of us can waste our lives sitting around doing nothing, but saying yes to more things, aside from the old lady lol, is a great thing. Try new things and live a little differently.

Yes, seems like Jim Carrey movies always has some parts that could simply be cut out. I’ll ignore that part!

I just love Jim Carrey. Not to mention romantic-comedies. My favorite. For those who have not watch this movie, you better do.

I went to see this movie because I’m a big Jim Carrey fan, and I thought the concept funny. I enjoyed most of the movie, but the scene with the old lady was gross. Also, I felt that the second act was really drawn out. It was almost like, “hey, we get it, he says yes to everything.”

Ok, saw the movie this past weekend, very funny. I couldn’t help but think that this was a Liar Liar idea all over again though.

I thought that movie was hilarious.

Jim Kerrey, kudos to you!

This was one of Jim Carrey’s better movies lately. I agree about the part you mentioned being unnecessary. I still miss Ace Ventura, he should make a third one, although he never will.

yes man was good, in the end it gets boring though.

Isn’t this pretty much the same plot as “Liar Liar” ?
[Reply]
Yea, that part was kinda bad… Just dont take the bad parts close to your heart, just remember the good stuff.
Besides that part, i liked that movie. Seen it twice…

To me the Yes Man movie just seems like a lame attempt for Jim Carey to take home a fat pay check.
It was funny yes but seen the whole Jim Carey act a few times before now!
