Movie Review: Enchanted

6:14 am Movies, TV and Music

Ok, I know that I’m a little behind the times on this one, but I saw the movie Enchanted for the first time last night. And I must say, that was a pretty funny movie. Granted, I think that the cheesiness of it got a little out of hand at some points, but I think it’s great that Disney made fun of their own musical fairy tale movies!

Here’s what I thought were some great quotes from the movie:

Robert: Don’t sing. It’s OK, you know. Let’s just walk. Can we walk?

Prince Edward: [threatening Robert with his sword] Have you any last words before I dispatch you?
Robert: You have got to be kidding me!
Prince Edward: Strange words!

Well, those are a few highlights. Overall this was a pretty funny movie. Especially Prince Edward. They also took scenes from a bunch of the Disney movies and put them in scattered places, so make sure to watch for that if you see this movie. I give it a thumbs up!

Enchanted tells the tale of 2D animated princess Giselle (Adams), who falls in love with the handsome Prince Charming (James Marsden) much to the chagrin of Charming’s conniving mother, Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon). Fearing that her power over the kingdom will be lost by their quickie marriage, Narissa tricks Giselle into falling into a magical well that banishes her to real-life, flesh and blood New York . . . the magic of Enchanted is Adams’ wide-eyed portrayof an animated character becoming real . . . In one particular scene, Giselle experiences anger for the first time, and at that moment, the movie stops all pretense of being a cute little Disney flick and fearlessly elevates to something special.

For moviegoers older than 18, though, the best part of Enchanted is that it’s similar to Pixar films and the first two Shrek movies in that it will appeal to kids and their parents. The audience at the sneak peek burst out laughing at numerous jokes that will completely fly over 9-year-olds’ heads without making them feel left out.

While not seamless in its blend of cartoon and live action, it melds traditional hand-drawn animation with real-life actors in a modern-day setting and affectionately satirizes such Disney icons as Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, the Little Mermaid and Cinderella.

The first 15 minutes re-imagines the classic Disney formula, after which the movie segues from an idyllic make-believe world to the tough and bustling streets of New York. Picture-book characters are transformed, without warning, into real-life versions. That’s when the fun begins.

I love that you posted about this. lol..my girlfriend and I saw it in the theaters and she recently got the DVD. It’s a great movie even for the adults but it’s not that it was funny that amazes me about this movie. It’s the fact that Adams who plays the princess really convinced me she was a real princess. She was soooo good and i loved how she kept her hands in a princess like fashion the entire time!! I was very impressed by her acting in this movie. 2 thumbs up! Get the DVD!
