Identity Theft Really Ticks Me Off

7:20 am Random Reviews

Ok, I say that but as far as I know I have never been the victim of it. I just think it’s ridiculous that people will go out and do this kind of stuff. It really really messes up your life! And it seems to be getting easier for crooks and more common.

Well, I think we’ve all heard the ads for a company called LifeLock. You know, the guy that gives out his social to show his confidence in the product. That’s pretty encouraging if you ask me!

I think the coolest thing about this company is their $1,000,000 guarantee. Here’s what it says on their site about it:

If your Identity is stolen while you are a member of LifeLock, we’re going to do whatever it takes to recover your good name. If you need lawyers, we’re going to hire the best we can find. If you need investigators, accountants, case managers, whatever, they’re yours. If you lose money as a result of the theft, we’re going to give it back to you.

We will do whatever it takes to help you recover your good name and we will spend up to $1,000,000 to do it.

Now that’s a guarantee!

Ok, so there’s another random product review for you today. That seems to have been the theme for the last day or two, I hope you all don’t mind. We’ll see what randomness comes in next week!

at least it can be avoided pretty easily, as long as you are careful to shred disclosing documents and careful when using your credit cards online as well as other places.

I actually had my identity stolen once about 8 years ago. It was not fun! I didn’t even know about it until the police showed up my house to arrest me and I had no clue what they were talking about. It was an ordeal to get my name cleared. Thanks for the link to lifelock.

It seems like this stuff really sells. A lot of identity theft just has to do with being careful and not giving your information freely. I know several people who have gotten this, and I guess if it makes a person feel better when they go to sleep at night then thats all that matters.

Identity theft is one of those things like getting your car stolen. How many times have you “just run into the store”, maybe even left the engine running…then one time you come out and its gone. I’m pretty careful about this stuff (along with junk mail, span, viruses, etc) but you never know. And your right, a $1m guarantee…can’t beat that!

I agree - identity theft is worrying and it would apppear the authorities are powerless to control it.

I know 2 people that were victims of identiy fraud. In both cases the police notified them that it had happened. Somehow they got a hold of a list of people that the criminals were targeting.

There are several services out there, like prepaid legal etc, that offer identity protection. I think it is smart to do a google search to see what people say about a service before you buy.

I keep hearing ads for this company on the radio and it sounds great! I’m also frustrated with the thousands of people that get hurt by fraud.

Many of my fellow inmates were in on identity theft convictions. Usually it was motivated by a drug problem. It was amazing to me how easy it was for these people to get credit in another person’s name. In most cases, access to the target’s mail box was all that was needed.

I’d agree that the LifeLock $1MM guarantee is pretty awesome. I would point out that there are some limitations- for example, they won’t cover lost wages- but it is still pretty extensive. Just like anything else, it is always good to read the fine print to know what the coverage looks like before you actually need it!
