I Should Read More…
September 17, 2008 8:41 am Random Thoughts
So lately I’ve been thinking a lot about doing more reading. I used to do a lot of reading actually, but in recent years I’ve just been so busy with everything that I haven’t had the time to do it.
You know what has been great though? We don’t have TV at our house and so I’m not wasting my time with that. In fact, there have been several times where I’ve picked up a book for a minute or two when in the past I would have just plopped down and turned on the TV. What a waste of time!
The thing about books is that they tend to really engage you if its a good book. Kinda like when you’re in a movie theater you get more into it than when you’re watching the same movie at home. It also seems that I internalize things a lot better when I read as well. I think I’ve heard others say this also.
I’ve also noticed that my interests have changed over the years. When I was a teenager the only kinds of books that I enjoyed reading were fantasy novels. I still enjoy those, but no I also like reading educational books.
Anyway, there’s a random topic for today. Go read!t

Reading is my one of my passions, but like you said, it’s just hard to find the time to do it. I find myself going after the short novels rather than the long series of books.

I love reading but don’t have the time with kids and a wife who likes to give me hunny-do lists..so if you have the time now, go for it

I have kicked the TV too thankfully. I have read 3 books in 2 months - about as many as i had read in the previous year!

I’ve been thinking the same thing lately. I kept berating myself for not having read enough of the “classics”, but after several failed attempts to muddle through dry and lifeless relics of the past I’ve realized… I don’t care for the “classics” (not many of them anyways) so I’ve turned my attention to reading books based on the Torchwood television series. Sad? yes. Uncultured? yes. An indication of a lay intellect? most likely. But, they are fun!

I also ignore the classics, but instead I enjoy the sci-fi classics like Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke.
Nevertheless, from time to time I get my hands on the world literature classics, such as the russians writers. They are great!

I dont have Cable for the same reason - I dont want to get too distracted watching TV . . . although sometimes I catch myself flipping through the 5 channels I do get for an hour!

I don’t like reading. I usually like buying those audio books that I can listed to in the car. I also like it when the author is reading it. I just pop the CD in the car disc player.

Both reading & writing are very important. When young, it helps develop the brain and as you age, it helps get your brain in tune, young, and not dumb. Praise be literature & creative writing! Cheers now!

Ah yes,.. the lost art of reading. I didn’t read much for a long time but then coming back from vacation I noticed I didnt missed the telly. I flicked through the channels and there was nothing but same old same old. Television has been a curse to mankind. So I’m back to reading books agains. I also noticed in the beginning it went kinda slower since I didnt read for a long time.
