I Don’t Understand NASCAR
July 9, 2008 8:58 am Just Random! There are a lot of strange ’sports’ in the world, and honestly watching NASCAR is one that I just don’t understand. I just don’t see the fun in watching cars go round and round and round a track all day long. Sounds pretty boring to me…
On the other hand, I’m sure that it would be a BLAST to be driving one of those cars. So maybe NASCAR is one of those things that you have to actually be participating in it to truly get a kick out of it. Kinda like golf. I can’t watch golf on TV, I get bored out of my mind. But playing it, it’s a blast!
So if you’ve never driven a race car before, what is the appeal of NASCAR? I honestly just don’t get it. Can anyone enlighten me on the subject?

most people say that the appeal is watching the cars crash. That sounds pretty horrible to me, but there is no accounting for good taste

I totally understand what your saying. Nascar is so boring. Maybe if your the driver it would be exciting, but even then I’m sure driving 500 laps would get old.

I’ve seen car racing on TV once in a while. It’s ok. I knew friends that liked it much more.

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is the biggest sanctioning organization of stock cars in the US. The three largest racing series authorized by NASCAR are the Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series and the Craftsman Truck Series. It also oversee NASCAR Local Racing, the Whelen Modified Tour, and Whelen All-American Series.

There is more to NASCAR than cars going around in a circle, and I think that’s what people can’t seem to understand.
There is a points race, drama between drivers, chess like strategy, and anything can happen at any time.
I’m personally just a “Race” fan, NASCAR, Indy, F1, LeMans..doesn’t matter. I just like to watch things race

I just have never gotten into it. I guess it’s like some people don’t understand other sports either!

I share your sentiments on this one. I prefer WRC and F1, I believe they’re much more exciting!

Even though NASCAR is a hit in the US, I myself does not get thrilled watching it. I mean, the cars just go round and round on an oval track and there’s really no excitement in it. Unlike Formula 1 of course, where the circuits are much more complicated and cars much faster.

you might appreciate nascar more if you are into cars or car racing itself.
