I Am Legend Review

So over the weekend my wife and I rented the movie I Am Legend staring Will Smith. I must say that Will Smith really is an awesome actor. It’s actually funny to go back and see him in Fresh Prince and then see some of the things he’s done the last couple of years. Who would have ever expected him to go from that to an action movie star?
Anyway, this movie was ok. His acting was great, but the story itself was pretty weak. I think it had a lot of potential, but it seemed like the just sort of ended it at the end. That was very disappointing. In fact, at the end my wife and I just looked at each other with a puzzled look on our face saying, “That’s the end?”
I read a synopsis of the book, and I think it sounds like the book would be quite a bit better. But, isn’t that how it normally is with movies?

Does it feature folklore, myths, and legends? Ha! Just kidding…
I’ve actually never seen it, but I knew somebody that watched it and they said it was good. But, I had the original “The Omega Man” that “I am Legend” was based off of, and was told that it was even better. I have seen “The Omega Man” starring Charlton Heston, so I’ll probably pass on the newer version. Peace out…

when it comes to converting a book to a movie, mistakes do happen and that touch which a book will provide won’t come that easily

I think Will Smith did a good job with what he was given. He’s always been a great actor, but in a zombie flick? Tough movie for ANY good actor to really shine in, in my opinion!

I thought the movie was ok also. I remember seeing the original many years ago and the story seemed slightly more developed…but the effect in this one were much better.

Yeah, I felt the same way about the ending. Apparently this was also a remake of an older film starring Charlton Heston which was far superior. Nevertheless, Will Smith is a box office draw, although I findd it funny how he keeps on having to save the world. Saviour complex, anyone?

I Am Legend was a good movie, at least I enjoyed it. I didn’t read the book, but I remember when my friend was reading it and the movie’s quite different.

I think it can sometimes be rather difficult when it comes to book, or at least for certain books, to capture atmosphere in the right manner. Also depends from expectations I guess… some would like movie to be copied book more or less while some directors use book simply as idea and and take far more freedom in interpreting it. Personally I can’t say I’m impressed by I am Legend but honestly I can’t say it’s bad… just expected more.

Only Will Smith himself could carry on a whole movie with just one real human character in the main plot. I love how he talks to himself and the other mannequins.

I thought Will Smith played well given it was mostly a monologue, however did not like the movie.

I saw this flick a couple of months ago and thought it was just OK movie for Will Smith. I was hoping for some more action but how much can you expect when you’re one of the only ppl left? His role wasn’t as good as it was in I,Robot and Independence Day in my opinion.

I really enjoyed it, but I do love disaster films so I would. Far too much product placement like all of Will Smith’s films, how when the city is overgrown and a mess he has a brand new Mustang sparkling clean, which he then bashes round the place. The Batman/superman plug as passable thou!

I’m no fan of ‘Big Willy’ (lol) but that movie LOOKED enticing at least. I did wonder tho, since I’ve heard the story’s largely about atmospherics, how it’d translate to the screen. Too bad, cause I hoped it would be good

I agree with you that it is a weak movie. At first it seems to keep you on your seat but the ending blew it off. But I love Will Smith just the same.

Hmm, I’m not sure I agree, I think the film itself was pretty poor after the amazing hype-up it got on the TV. I was really looking forward to watching it only to be let down by the end result.
He (Will Smith) seems to have done a few bad films lately, I thought the very same about the Hancock film. I really do hope he gets back on track with some good films before he does an Eddie Murphy and goes all silly. I really like the guy and think some of his earlier films are great.
