Heath Ledger Found Dead
January 23, 2008 8:28 am Movies, TV and Music
I’m sure most of you have heard by now, but actor Heath Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment yesterday. This is really a sad story. I never saw any of his “big pictures” like “Brokeback Mountain”, but I will say that every movie I saw him in I thought he was a great actor. “A Knight’s Tale,” “10 Things I Hate About You”…he was great in all of them. And as you might know from this blog, I am very very excited to see his performance of the Joker in “The Dark Knight” this summer.
So the story is that he might have overdosed on some OTC sleeping pills. I read that he had an interview a while back where he mentioned that taking two Ambien would only give him a hour of sleep. I guess the guy was really stressed and maybe in a moment of frustration he took too many. I guess no one really knows.
It’s interesting, but a lot of times people will look up to the celebrities as having it all, always being happy, not a care in the world. But as more and more of these stories come out I hope people are getting the idea that this really is not the case. Heath Ledger had a great showbiz career ahead of him, but that doesn’t mean that he was free from the stress that must come from it.
For those directly affected, you have my condolences.

The untimely death of such a great actor is so tragic. My heart goes out to his friends and family. He will be missed.

This is very bad news. I wonder if he has finished his work on The Dark Knight

I found about this today…
Believe it or not, I was really shocked.
It’s true, he was not a friend of mine but he was one of my favorite actors and he was also so young…
I still cannot believe it!
When I first read the news about his death on the internet I hoped it was a hoax… but it wasn’t…
God rest his soul!
He was a great man and a great actor!

i really liked him in “brokeback mountain”. come to even think of it. he was only 25. he still had a lot to live for. may god bless his soul.

Wow, this is really bad news. I have seen a knights tale, a pretty good film all around. I have also seen 10 things I hate about you and he was good in both.
A shame really, I thought his acting skills could have propelled him to the top.
RIP Heath Ledger, you will be missed.

Yes his death was shocking, but I believe being a celebrity you pay a certain price and then you should have a good circle of advisers and friends who keep you grounded and level headed and away from such things and if you do not have good friend circle you are gone …

sad to see him go …Actors like this should be protected when they make comments that they are depressed and should be taken to rehab ..

It is so true, that people thing that stars are successful and happy. In fact they are even more miserable that usual Joe, because they already achieved goal of materialistic life and lost a goal of life. There are so many examples (recent Britney Spears, Kurt Cobain)… They can have material pleasures, but it is not enough to make anybody happy - we need spiritual food…or suicide rates will grow more and more…

You have no idea how sad this mad my friends and I. It’s so unfortunate

I’m a fellow Aussie and we’re all still in shock at the loss of this brilliant 28 year old. His memory will live on in his movies.

Very sad indeed.
I am also looking forward to “The Dark Knight”.
[Reply]
What the?!! How could that be. It shouldn’t be happened.

I’m sure he wasn’t surrounded by people who had his best interests in mind. The film industry is so fake and shallow. If he had some real people around him, this likely wouldn’t have happened. I’m sure it’s very hard to stay grounded when you have nothing but yes people around you who want to take a peice of you.

Truly a tragedy to see. Just goes to prove that money and fame alone can’t make you happy.

Brokeback mountain was great, but what else did he do?
I can not say that it deos not disturb me that many people die for nothing each day and when he dies everybody remember drugs for a few seconds

I was shocked when I found out this news. What a tragic loss and I loved him as an actor.

That is really awful.. I really wonder if any of us are actually happy in this world. It’s all MAYA .. in other words .. illusion. We need to feel sorry for ourselves..

Heath Ledgar had a great career ahead of him cause his acting was always remarkable. I haven’t heard any official news on the progress of his ‘Dark Knight’ movie but I think everyone is hoping he was able to finish that.

It is shocking and also very true that you have to get your bearings right for sure
[Reply]
Has it been determined exactly why he died? I haven’t heard anything in a couple of days about that.
[Reply]
This is just crazy. I was just watching 10 things I hate about you like a week ago - rediculous

My girlfriend bought the Brokeback mountain DVD a day before he passed on, and now she doesn’t want to watch it anymore.
She says it to weird …
Is it me or does anyone else think this is kinda funny (not the passing on ofc, but the not watching the DVD)?
[Reply]
It is very tragic that Heath passed. One very interesting thing is that He and my brother looked very much alike and we always called him David Ledger, but the coincidental thing is that he passed on my brothers birthday. I wish I could post a pic! RIP brother…

I am very sad about this. I think he was a very talented actor and seemed to really care for his child.

So sad. It will be weird watching Dark knight in a couple of months and realise one of the actors died.

It is so tragic. He was so young and so promising an actor.

I bet it will be only a matter of time before we see the drug video. ET has suppressed it but it will be leaked sooner or later.
Would you pay $200,000 for a video like that and sit on it? Stupid!
[Reply]
I am very upset about this, he was incredibly talented, its very true that the good die young, I have learned this.
[Reply]
Im also shocked when i first heard the news. But i heard it was not due to drug problem but heart attack
[Reply]
I was absolutely amazed how did it happen when i came to know about this news. He’s a good man, seen him in the Tv and it shocks me a lot
[Reply]
I read something in the paper recently that said he died of natural causes what do you think
[Reply]
I feel sad for this young man when I heard it in the news. He was too young and theres lots of opportunity that are waiting for him specially for his acting ability. But if that is gods will, for sure he was now happy… On memory of him as an actor i just bought a cheap dvd from an online shopping and the title of my dvd was braveheart.

I completely agree, me being a singer/songwriter I understand and have come to know that money does not buy happiness. Luckily I found this out in the beginning stages of my career. Whatever ones career may be, making millions does not create happiness. I’m a firm believer that true happiness is in God. And when you find yourself in HIM, then you’ll find the peace and rest you truly need. When I heard about the recent death of this actor it really took me by surprise and opened my eyes even wider to know that time here on earth is limited. So I must cherish and take advantage of every moment. I must personally work through every issue and problem and let God help me through them. Covering issues with money will never lead to success.

Celebrities does not have it all. they are under so much media attention and stress. Look a Britney Spears. She’s gone from idol to ultimate low. When I was a child and teenager I would have loved to have a stars life (like all the other youngsters). Now, I wouldn’t want to be a celebrity at all! I’ll earn my money and spend it quietly.

Death is inevitable. But the demise of the actor was way sad. Surely, we will miss you Mr. Heath Ledger!
[Reply]
im not sure i fully understand people who feel sorry for someone they have never met , is it because the`re famous ? ….yes
millions die everyday who have had difficult lifes and leave a family ,does this make them any different to this guy , maybe better ??
`media` at is usual best

I am so sad over his death. I too loved 10 things I hate about you and Knight’s Tale. What a waste of a life. I guess we shouldn’t take anything for granted!

His death is a big lost to Hollywood. He’s so talented and with new Batman movies coming soon, it just hard to believe that he’s really gone…
[Reply]
When I first heard of the news I was really shocked, and when I read the article about his sudden death I feel like it was a big lost.. all of us didn’t expect that Joker will died soon and at his age. I will never let his last movie just pass by.. I will wait for it and see who replace him..
[Reply]
yeah, what a shocking news, with the accidental overdose of prescription drugs and all, it is kind of to believe..
[Reply]
He was an inveterate actor.I am desperate to see his heinous acting in “The Dark Knights”.
[Reply]
I haven’t seen any of his films. But taking pills will certainly affect the body. It is a sad ending for such a good actor.
[Reply]
he’s a great actor. what a lost.

Heath Ledger’s death completely surprised me. He seemed like such a clean-cut guy to me. It just goes to show the amount of drugs that are being abused amongst the hollywood elite - abusing prescription drugs are part of a lot of people’s everyday routine
