I have to agree with this post. I have worked for a SEO company and I couldn’t believe how un-honest the whole industry is. It’s a tough field with no guarantees.

Finding a good service company is not as easy as one could imagine. SEO is an example. While a lot of people already know about the Internet and SEO, the only reason why SEO scam still exists is because it is still effective!
Asking people to pay for #1 for random terms and keep paying monthly to maintain that place is nuts…

I believe data plays a big part when it comes to choosing a SEO company. Look at their portfolio and request for a list of keywords which they have optimized for their site. From there, compare their results and see if they are really capable of doing so. Take your time in choosing one.

I own a website maintenance business and I’ve been looking for a good SEO to outsource work to for a while now. So far I’ve only come across 2 types of SEO companies; those that are too expensive for the small businesses I deal with and those that are scammers.

I’m a firm believer that, if you’re in it long-term, the best person to do your SEO is You. Of course, there’s a heap to learn in order to get there, and you need to be careful not to fry your own site. But no SEO consultant will be able to devote the time and care to watching your market, your competitors, and your visitors than you do. Being your own SEO guy is the best value, if you’re playing to win in the long-term game.

Agree - the online marketing mix can be a handful sometimes. It is all about measuring your ROI. Without data you will never know what is effective or not. I have some clients that benefit from SEO and some that benefit from SEM. I try to use the SEM to find out what key terms provide the highest conversions and then work on the SEO for those keyterms.
Data is everything for ROI.

i agree with previous comments - its hard to find a good SEO company. but it is worth looking for it. if you don’t want to pay lots of money - choose a cheap SEO firm. but DO expect either failure or success. or you may choose a famous and expensive SEO firm which may guarantee success in your business promotion. it’s all up to you to decide!
