Ever Had Hosting Problems?

12:44 pm Just Random!

Every now and then I hear one of my coworkers going on about how the host they have is no good and they keep running into problems with it.  I sometimes wonder if they could have made a better choice in their hosting!

That’s why I’m glad that there are sites like Web Hosting Geeks that can review and give advice on what webhosting company to use.

One thing that I really like about their site is that they also give advice for which host to use depending on what your site or project is going to be. This makes them so much better than the other review sites.

So seriously, if you’re in the market for hosting you should check out Web Hosting Geeks. They also give really good tips on their blog!

Wow….I have had A LOT of frustrations with Web Servers. In my experience, Bluehost is probably the best for simple company websites. Mediatemple seems to be doing well with complex social networking sites.

What I really want to bring up is Lunarpages. Its TERRIBLE. It not only boots you out of the FTP every minutes, it also changes the permissions in your code randomly. Great pains. If you ever have a choice, don’t fall for their aggressive marketing :/

    Good post. Very helpful! :D

Working in the website hosting industry I can tell you that yes there are lot of companies which have very aggressive marketing strategies. Thank god I work for one which doesn’t employ those marketing strategies.

I’ve searched for virtual web hosts in the past, and it was pretty time consuming. With thousands of “hosts” around, and just a few good ones… it isn’t exactly easy.

Those review sites are useful though :)

I had a lot of problems with fishy web hosts in the last few years. I’ve had some sites down for weeks. Now before getting a hosting account I check for reviews on webhostingtalk, the site you mentioned and on google of course.

Finding the right web host for your blog or site is definitely tricky. Everybody has different needs and finding the right fit can take years.

Thats why… if you can afford it, you should go with dedicated hosting, it solves alot of issues, and puts the power right in your hands.

I used to got many problem with hosting services, and my tips is alway try with some well know Share host service or big company. Maybe you will have to pay a little bit more, but you will have a good support from them.

If you are serious about an internet business, then dedicated or a high powered VPS will serve you well. You can save a lot of money by using a good VPS.

I’ve spent alot of time in the web hosting industry and it is hard to find companies that provide the level of service you need to feel secure. Leaving your website/business in the hands of a hosting company that has it’s support based in a country who’s workers cannot deviate from a script can be difficult.
One of the most important things to look out for is whether the support is based in the country you are signing up from. If so the support, hopefully, give more help when things go wrong.

Yeah, it can’t be easy to be one of the low cost hosters because there are just so many accounts managed by just a few people. And if they try to increase the staff, the costs go up which drives away customers. Basically, I think you’re just going to get what you pay for!

When choosing a host, ask the following questions:-

    - how much downtime can I expect in a given year
    - do you back up all data? If so, how often?
    - can I install components on the server?

Anyone who has been involved in a lot of websites has had web hosting problems. You just have to live with them. Just make sure you keep in contact with people in case you need help.
