Benefits of Credit Cards Over Debit Cards

6:54 am Just Random!

The other day I read an article from a friend of mine about the reasons to use credit cards over debit cards.  I don’t remember all the specifics of the article, but I came away saying, “You have a good point there, my friend!”

Here’s the gyst of it: rewards and refunds.  Think about it.  When you use your debit card, you just have the money come out of your bank account.  But when you use a credit card you can get ones with all sorts of rewards such as cash back or points towards certain things.

Here’s a great example: my Dad has a GM Card that gives him points towards the purchase of a GM car.  He usually buys American, so he got a great deal on a Pontiac he helped my sister buy a few years ago.  Then there’s the classic example of the air miles.

So basically, if you have the discipline, you can find a card that will give you the benefits that you need.   But the key is having discipline to not let it become unnecessary debt.

This morning I came across another site that will help you find the right card for you.  The site is AcclaimVisa.com.  On their site you can take a few minutes and easily apply for low interest credit card online.

So if you have the discpline and want some extra rewards, check these guys out and see what they can do for you!

Also, purchasing on the internet, getting a reversal of the charges on a credit card is much easier than debit assuming you’ve been scammed. If it’s debit, the money’s gone… it can be recovered, but not nearly as easily as a credit card where it’s “magically” wiped off of the statement.

I already have credit cards and they help me a lot especially when I’m in a hurry and forgot to bring extra cash.

I used to use credit cards until I maxed them out but I never bothered again and just stuck to using my debit card to purchase things when I didn’t have the cash on me. I will probably get a decent credit card with some good benefits when I start to earn a bit more cash.

Yeah, credit cards are nice if you can pay your bill every month and don’t end up maxed out. Once they get you there, you’ll mainly just be paying interest fees for years and years - depending on how much you owe.
I hear that at the first of the year, Bank of America Debit Cards are going to start charging a fee just for using them. WTF? On that note, credit cards are looking better already, as long as you’re responsible and don’t think you’re spending free money or something even more asinine like, not worrying about paying your debts, etc.

Nice post and great looking blog! I’m glad to have found it and will be back. I agree – being self-motivated is so important if you work for your self – not just with making money on the internet. There’s much to learn and your blog helps with that – so thanks!

But you really have to be disciplined in order to always pay off the cards within the grace period. That’s what the credit card companies are hoping for.
