Awesome Voice Recognition Software
October 10, 2008 9:17 am Random ReviewsEvery now and then a product comes out that has the possibility of really helping out a lot of people. Well I came across one today that I think has the possibility of changing the lives of a lot of people.
Dragon Naturally Speaking is a voice recognition software. So all you have to do is talk into the microphone and it will type on the screen what you say. You can also use it to pull up different applications, send emails, and lots of other things as well.
Here’s a video that will show this product in action:
I know of a friend of mine that could really take advantage of a product like this. He’s a guy that had juvenile arthritis that has really limited his mobility and other things. And to make things worse, he was in a car accident a few years ago that left him in a powerchair. He still get’s online and stuff, but I can only imagine how hard it is for him to type and other things that I take for granted. This could change his life, I should let him know about it for sure.
So if you know someone that could benefit for this type of voice recognition software, be friend and let them know. If you have any doubts about the product, you can check out the Dragon reviews or take Dragon’s typing speed test!. Awesome idea, thanks Dragon!

Too cool! I have arthritis and for $200 this looks like a life saver to me. Amazing how it knows homonyms like bear and bare.

Wow this might finally be a way for me to avoid learning how to touch type!
(Very embarrassed to admit that I’ve never learned how!!)
I’ll look at this right now.

Also Office XP has ‘built-in’ voice recognition software which takes your speech and turns it into text on the screen or commands to control your Office XP programs. It does not allow you to dictate into, or control, other programs.

Nice, I wasn’t aware of that. How well does it compare with Dragon?

It has its good points and its bad points. Imagine your working in an open plan office like myself… Everybody shouting at the computer disturbing each other, and I’m sure the software wont handle background noise easily. Every time I send an email, my colleagues would hear everything I say… I’d rather type it. Same thing at home. I wouldn’t want to be talking out loud while someone at home is trying to sleep or watch TV quietly.
