I Never Want to Have Surgery

Random Thoughts 10 Random Comments

I mentioned last week that my wife was going to have her gallbladder out. This week I’ve been helping her to recover from the surgery and while helping her I’ve come to the conclusion that I never want to have surgery.

In fact, I never want to have to stay in the hospital for anything if I can help it. Now, I’m not saying that if I needed to I wouldn’t go to the hospital. But I plan on staying healthy! To this day I’ve never broken a bone, and really the only reason I have ever gone to the hospital for myself was to have an MRI done on my knee.

Some may say that if you’ve never broken a bone, you’ve never had any real fun. I would have to disagree! Maybe I’ve just been lucky not to have any major injuries. Here are a few example of times I’ve been very lucky:

  • Stretched out and almost tore my ACL playing soccer
  • Fell off a platform and almost got impaled on a 2 foot wooden stake (just barely missed it)
  • Ran into another waverunner with my waverunner on the lake
  • Fel into a small snow ravine on a snow mobile (about 5 feet deep is all)
  • Numerous wipe outs on water skis and alpine skis
  • Hit several curbs driving in the snow
  • and more

So I think I’m still having fun. I just don’t like seeing my wife go through this, so I hope that our roles are never switched.

Mouse Flavored Cat Food?

Random Observations 23 Random Comments

Sparrow - No Cat Food by Gunnsi, FlickrI heard something on the radio the other day that really made me laugh. It was just in the background, but here’s the question that was asked:

“Why don’t we have mouse flavored cat food?”

Seriously! Who decided that cats like the flavors that are currently in cat food? What about bird flavor? I remember growing up our cat would always kill and eat (at least partially) birds, mice, and other rodents. So why don’t you see these flavors in cat food?

I just went to the Friskies Cat Food website and here are some of the flavors that they have: Seafood Sensations, Indoor Delights (Poultry), Feline Favorites (Poultry, Milk, and Seafood), Signature Blend (Poultry, Beef, and Seafood). I don’t know about you, but I can’t image a cat in the wild killing a chicken, cow, or catching a crab. I think we’re trying a little too hard to domesticate our pets. Next you’ll have the flavors fillet mignon, banana creme pie, and nachos (that would be my favorite if I was a cat ;-) ).

Who knows, but maybe cats in the wild roamed as packs and would take out a cow kinda like a group of piranhas would. If that’s the case, then maybe its a good thing that we’ve domesticated cats…and we can thank companies like Friskies for keeping their primal needs fed.

Optional Body Parts?

Random Thoughts 10 Random Comments

Do you ever wonder why we even have certain things in our body?  Namely things like tonsils, appendix, and gallbladder that you can do without just fine.  I think it is very interesting that we even have these things!

This week my wife found out that she has to have her gallbladder removed.  She has been having some problems with it ever since our last kid was born a month ago.  So they did some tests on it and decided that it needed to go.

I guess my big question is that if we don’t really need some of these things, why don’t we just take them out once you turn 6 or something?  Ok, I know I know, the healthcare costs and all that.  But wouldn’t it be cheaper to just do it then rather than wait until your appendix explodes and almost kills you?

Ok, if you can’t tell I’m mainly just kidding with this.  But you have to admit that it is interesting that we can take things out and still function just fine.  I guess it goes to show that the human body is one amazing thing!

Getting the Feeling the Spring is Almost Here

Random Gripings 16 Random Comments

As you may well know, I’m sick of winter… But I’m getting the feeling that spring is almost here.

How can I tell?  Because I feel like my allergies are coming early!  I get hay fever just about every year, but usually it doesn’t hit until May, and then again in late July or early August.  But for some reason this year as soon as it started to get warm I started to sneeze a little bit more than normal.  Granted, this is not full on hay fever, but it’s reminding me of one of the things I don’t like about spring and summer….

I’m beginning to realize that I don’t have a favorite season.  I know a lot of people do, but I guess I’m not one of those people…  Oh well!

My Favorite Pixar Movies!

Movies, TV and Music 42 Random Comments

I did a post about a week ago about my favorite animated Disney flicks, so I figured it was time to do one about the Pixar movies.  I must say that the Pixar movies are some of the best animated movies ever, so here is my list of favorites:

#3 - Toy Story

I liked the first Toy Story a lot better than the second one, although they are both really really good.  I know that a lot of you are probably already saying, “How could he put Toy Story third?!”  Well just remember that this is my opinion on this blog!

Ok, all joking aside, Toy Story is a great movie and will always be a classic.  It’s creative, funny, and just a good time.

#2 - Monsters, Inc.

I think this movie took Pixar’s creativity to a new level.  I mean c’mon, they made a whole movie about monsters in the closet, and it came out hilarious!  Boo is one cute animated kid, too!  At this point this movie is still a little too scary for my two-year-old, but I’m thinking that he’ll love it once he’s old enough not to freak out.  I guess he’s a little sensitive ;-) .

For a long time I probably would have put this as the #1 Pixar movie, but then the REAL #1 came out…

#1 - The Incredibles

I LOVE this movie!  It’s just so funny to think about it, because the whole lawsuit against the ‘Supers’ idea is so believable with the way things are today.  I just love the line where the ‘jumper’ responds back to Mr. Incredible “You didn’t save my life, you ruined my death!”  I could totally see someone doing that today.  Just a great great movie!

Honorable Mentions

I still believe that all of the Pixar movies would deserve mention as great movies, but only so many can make the top 3.  With that being said, there are a few that came close.  Here they are:

A Bug’s Life

Another great Pixar film.  Very creative, very well done, and almost made #3.  But I figured too many people would be upset if Toy Story wasn’t at least in the top 3.

Cars

I’ve only seen this a few times, but I think its a pretty good movie.  I’ll have to watch it a few more times to really get a full review for it, but I would still give it an honorable mention.

Now I know a lot of you may be saying, “What about Finding Nemo!?!?”  Well, it’s a good movie too, but I’ve seen it too many times with my kid.  So I’m a little sick of it.  Sorry!
